LivePerson Accessibility Policy
Accessibility Overview
LivePerson is committed to meeting the requirements set forth in the 1998 amendment to Section 508 of the U.S Rehabilitation Act. Our objective is to deliver value through quality products and services that meet the information reporting and analysis needs of all our customers. This includes meeting the needs of users with disabilities.
Background on Section 508
The Federal Government, by law, is required to purchase software that provides equivalent functionality to the disabled community. This includes those users who are blind, color blind, have low vision, deaf, hard of hearing, have some form of mobility disability, paralysis, or cognitive disability, such as dyslexia or attention deficit disorder. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act defines the legal parameters for the information technology that falls under Section 508 and the technical criteria for acceptable compliance. As part of this legislation, Congress established an Access Review Board to publish specific compliance guidelines that had to be mandated six months from the published date. As such, the Section 508 guidelines were published by the Access Board on 21 December 2000 and became effective 21 June 2001 .
Web Accessibility Compliance Audit
Many of LivePerson's clients have an interest in the overall web accessibility of their websites and asked for a technical assessment to be completed to determine if the LivePerson Chat application is compliant with leading accessibility standards. For this reason, LivePerson hired SSB Technologies, Inc. (SSB), San Francisco, CA, one of the leading web accessibility consultants, to determine the general accessibility of the LivePerson Chat client, to determine overall compliance with established accessibility guidelines and to recommend prioritized remedial activities to improve the accessibility of LivePerson application to bring it into compliance with the guidelines.
SSB performed an assessment of the LivePerson Chat application and its deployment on websites to determine its compliance with leading accessibility standards including: the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Priority Level One (P1) and the WCAG Priority Level Two (P2) which were published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Non-visual Accessibility (NVA) Certification criteria, and the Section 508 guidance criteria. The recent launch of the LivePerson client software (7.0) fully addresses any open compliance violations discovered during the Accessibility Compliance Audit.
Technology Standards
LivePerson is designed to work with a broad range of assistive technologies, such as one-handed keyboards, refreshable Braille keypads, and text-to-speech readers. LivePerson also respects all of the Accessibility Options available under the Control Panels in the Windows Operating System. This includes the option to set the LivePerson application into High Color Contrast mode. More specifically, LivePerson has selected Freedom Scientifics' screen reader Job Access with Speech (JAWS) versions 4.5 and higher as the baseline for ensuring the proper user experience for blind users.
